What Happiness means to an angel??

Hello fandom! I loved the last episode so much, so beautifully written by Meredith.... And in the middle of all the things that caught my attention, the moment that the Empty made that deal with Castiel was one of the most significant in the show bc, watching in retrospective Cas life, I mean the life we know about him, what would be for Castiel, this beautiful Angel of the Lord, the real happiness??

The three spheres of happiness

Ok, don't want to be very extensive here, so I just want to analyze the following graphic related to Cas.

So yeah this is too technical, but I love it!

Bc we can analyze this three dimensions in Castiel, each one of this spheres has inside a lot of aspects...

But, in resume, this three dimensions are the most important in each person, and each one should be feel fulfilled to have a plenty healthy and happy life...

Let's see this related to our favourite angel...

PHYSICAL

We can talk here about health, a healthy body is synonymous of fullness.

We had seen Castiel in full power, in healthy shape, so many times.

When we first met him, in this strong vessel, we were fascinated (as Dean) with all this power and self confidence Castiel showed us. That self confidence was translated to his presence and his vessel, so we can see here how this three spheres are connected.

We had seen Cas I'll and weak too, remembered this time...

When CAS was sick with power and felt all that omnipotence inside of him, his body begins to deteriorate. The illness blantant to the eye was just a reflection of how he was feeling by the inside.

The same thing we saw in season 10, and here I will mention @gneisscastiel he wrote a wonderful meta comparing grace with human blood, and that would explain Castiel lack of health in the beginning of season 10 for using grace that wasn't his.

But now... Talking about body's health, strictly, the vessel, we are seeing in season 14 he is in a good shape. So, health, I something that Cas is having well.

MENTAL

Ok, we all know things changed for Cas after meeting Dean, all his entire existence changed in a blink. He's discovery of free will amazed him but was true that it led him to make wrong decisions... And the guilt of that worked sadly in his mental state, he was so depressed in season 7, 8 and 9. Well I wasn't able to see Cas mentally leveled... Since this season, taking care of Jack and being his father and feeling he is part of this family, helped a lot to his mental health. I see him much stronger in this season than in the others.

EMOTIONAL

Ok.. here... In this sphere we can divide in family, friends and love interest.

So... Family and friends...

This is the family Cas has now, we could say the family he built with humans he met in earth, and bc he was always admiring humanity, to be in the middle of it, and to be part of it, as an Angel that protect his family, and that is loved by it, feels wonderful...

But also, the family where he came from...the angels. There's few of them... Their relationship wasn't the best for everything that Cas did as Godstiel, and then all the Metatron trouble... But in the last episode we saw this... (Even if we hate Naomi...)

Naomi said to him: " You saved us."

And wow... That happened fast but was significant. CAS... He saved Heaven... I knew the price was huge... And this sounds a little tricky... But he did it, right? Aaaand I still don't trust in Naomi 😒...

About love interest... Do I have to add something? Yes I do bc...

As we recall to season 13, the Empty was very angry bc he was AWAKENED through Jack powers, but the origin of this was Dean mourning so hard for Cas, THE PROFOUND BOND again, so, guiding me for what she was saying... The Empty never came back to sleep since then. She/he woke up again bothered by another strong bond, Nick with Lucifer. And bc the Empty is connected with all the angels, she/he can feel the longing too. The Empty is unstable and irritating.... And who is the cause of his despair? CAS. No one came back from there, but Cas. So... This was the Empty's opportunity to revenge...

Ok... Pay attention to all this... First of all... Is a very horrible and perfect revenge to make Castiel suffer, that's what this entity was looking for all the way. The Empty knew Castiel will suffer if Jack was dragged to the shadows. "Are you suffering? Good!" Empty!Dumah said to him, enjoying the situation. So yes... She came for Castiel, all the way, she used Jack to make Cas say "Take me", she knew it all the way... Why would take a just half human? Bc Jack is human now... He made all this fuss bc he saw an opportunity to take revenge over Castiel... The only angel that could rid from him.

Why Empty!Dumah would say all that "the sun shine in your face" bc he saw Castiel enjoying the sun when he came back to life, and the Empty hated that.

And bc the Empty knows Castiel heart, he knows what he hates and who he loves.

Castiel has now his family reunited, as he said in 12x12, in all his large life time, knowing the Winchesters was the most important thing to him (wow)... They are all healthy and together... As @mrsaquaman187 Said in a chat when we were discussing this facts.... What else could make him happy...Heaven? Heaven being repaired? Maybe... Now he will be welcomed there, bc he saved them... So... What else? What is that thing that kept unresolved in his heart?

Dean. Dean and his Porfound Bond with him. Is just i looks like not be very clear to Cas... He loves him deeply... And it shows... But Dean... He has a lot of work to do with himself... This season we saw enormous progress in the improvement of the character... So I'm guessing just a little more steps here... And we will be there... Even if Cas doesn't hope anything from Dean, bc he felt he is loved just as friend. Will be a big surprise when the hunter just throw all of the things he feels for his angel. We hope so...

So here I wanted to tell you... happiness doesn't depends of one person of one aspect, there's a lot of interconnected factor that builds it. And Castiel seem to have a lot of this factors under control, some of them as family, health and mental stability, are very obvious, but to be plentiful happy you need all of them, so check the spheres... Are they complete??? What are we messing? And then we will have the answer... What else need Cas to be plentiful happy?

I’m oblivious. I cry a shit load, so I always seem over sensitive or over emotional when most of the time I’m not. Guess who’s never taken seriously? Um, I put others needs before my own, which might not sound too bad until you realize I cannot truly help another person until I know I’m fully able to by prioritizing myself first.

My father. And a few of my friends.

Pansexual.

Taught by my clan, first hand by the Keeper. Yes and no.

Marriage is important to help put who I am in stone. Like, another document that says I was an elf mage. And of course for legal reasons if Bull and I wanna do things economically speaking. But, I am infertile and have zero motherly type instincts. And no, caring for safety of others doesn’t guarantee that I have said instincts, just means I care.

Probably.

Abuse. And any of it’s synonyms and connotations. Being like my mother was.

Clothes. Um, easy things to put on or take off. I stray from pants when I can. Hate those bastards.

I killed dragons in his name, yes I love someone. And platonically or family wise I also love others.

High class now. I hate it. I try to give away all the money I can to charities and people who need it but for some reason I keep getting fucking paid and I want them to stop because I’m fine, it’s everyone else that needs the money.

Around 15ish. But like, my closest best friend group is around three. Yes, I count Bull amongst them.

Fucking love it. Blueberry pie is my favorite and I can make it and ugh, i need one now.

Alcoholic wise, I prefer rum, but I actually don’t drink much and don’t really enjoy it all that much but I can tolerate a few rounds for fun. Bull is respectful of that. Otherwise, it’s a tie between apple juice and hot chocolate.

31. What’s your favorite place?

I have pillows in the corner of my room I snuggle in a lot and it’s my safe space kinda. But, I really enjoy Crestwood, I think the scenery can be beautiful.

...yes. The Iron Fucking Bull.

Um...small? Bull describes it as the size of medium oranges. Don’t ask how we got into that discussion because it was really a random topic that just came up.

Well, I really like how calm lakes can be. But I do feel a sort of calling towards the ocean. I think that’s because every few years or so, my clan would go to a coastal/island clan and exchange stuff and have fun. My father actually is half coastal and half Lavellan blood, so I have a bit in that in me. Though I’m like 200% sure because he has vitiligo and my ma had really sun sensitive skin, I can’t tan or be out in the sun very long even with protection.

35. Whats your type?

Intelligent, that does not equate to book smart by the way. Open mindedness, humorous, playful but can be serious in serious situations, kind, someone who can match my morals. Good chemistry.

36. Any fetishes?

Not by the true definition of one, no, but I have a shit load of kinks. That’s for another discussion if you wish. I’m not ashamed.

Module 5: Structures and Files

What I’ve Learned

The entire course for the fifth module of our Computer Science 21 journey has taught me multiple things with regards to ‘Structures and Files’ and how they are valuable, specifically in cases where you require a certain amount of variables to handle. It makes data storing much more convenient and efficient compared to having made them one by one. I’ve learned how to define and initialize a structure, execute operations among the structure variables, pass them as parameters, utilize them in an array, etc. Likewise, the ability to save every information accumulated during the runtime of the program is extremely beneficial in various cases which are largely utilized today. I have learned how to store and load data in/from a file as the extent of our lecture videos.

-When should we use arrays?

Structure Definition

Throughout my experience of programming including structures, I found myself more often than not, to be using ‘both’ the type-definition structure with a tag and a synonym as it minimizes the amount of space and typing I have to do whenever I have to create a new variable of structure. Aside from that, it also gives me more freedom and flexibility in using whichever method of initialization I deemed would be more useful in various types of situations. Hence, it is indeed most of the time applicable in any possible instances. (See example below) (See image above in Page 2)

The inability of a structure to have an instance of itself

As per its definition, structures are unable to have an instance of themselves. This is due to the fact that aside from using a synonym that is not yet defined in certain definitions of structures, referring to a structure to itself means an endless loop or recursion will occur. It is basically impossible since in order to finish initializing a structure it will undergo a self-referential process to identify the amount of memory necessary for allocation which will continue endlessly as you may have guessed and likewise allocate an endless amount of memory for the structure.

When should you use ‘->’ and ‘.’ When accessing a structure member?

When we are accessing a particular structure member within it as is, using the dot (.) operator is the ideal method for doing so. In comparison, if we are to access the members of the structure data type of a ‘pointer’, using the arrow operator (->) is the only way to accomplish the task.

Problems and how I solved them

I have encountered multiple cases of syntax and semantic error while doing the fifth module lab exercise. The added song to a playlist function gave me a hard time inserting such in the specific playlist that the user have chosen as I initially forgot and interchanged the integer variable I used to accept the user choice and the integer variable I used in the for loop of accessing the song’s details index which results to an instance where adding a song to a particular list will also add to all other existing playlists. Hence, interchanging them once again solved my issue. Besides that, what took most of my time is saving the data in a file and loading them in the same manner and positions. Specifically in the load function as I encountered segmentation fault numerous times without any idea of what was causing it. To be honest, I did multiple tweaking to my code and once I tested it, it suddenly fixes the problem. I had little to no clue what change I did to subside the segmentation fault that I constantly faced before answering the subsequent question if I have faced such a case.

Visual Novel Protagonists [Part 2]

What does a protagonist tell you about a VN? Does your hairstyle determine the type of heroine you'll meet? Does your age determine the type of sexual acts you engage in? Using some maths on the tag data on VNDB I aim to find out, and see out what kind of trends we can find with VN protagonists.

Part 1 of my VN protagonist analysis, where I examined what types of protagonists are most common, is up here.

I downloaded the tag data for every VN on VNDB with at least 5 user ratings, totalling 7,690 VNs and 220,222 tags. I then looked at the tags related to protagonists, filtering out those that appeared in fewer than 40 VNs (as the less common a tag is, the more likely any trends found are just a co-incidence); that left 82 protagonist tags. I’ll present the more interesting ones here in this post and the rest can be found here.

To identify trends, I looked at those VNs with a specific protagonist tag, then compared how common their other tags were against the average. Those with the highest increase in frequency were those we could say are most closely tied to that type of protagonist. For example, VNs with the “female protagonist” tag were much more likely to have the “otome game” tag, as shown in the chart below from my last post (the increase over the average is in green).

It isn’t a particularly surprising or interesting result that “otome games” would be linked to “female protagonists, but it confirms the algorithm works.

Now, onto the results! There’s a lot to go through so I tried to group it into a few categories. I’ll just be adding a few comments on any aspects I thought were particularly interesting. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did making it~

The bracketed number next to each protagonist title is how many VNs had that tag. The green percentage next to each entry is the increase in the tag frequency compared with the average.

The common thread in the unnamed protagonist tags seems to be short, low-budget VNs (hence the lack of choices and photo backgrounds), where there isn’t necessarily much of a story so the protagonist never needs a name.

The homosexual protagonist tag isn’t restricted by gender, and yet the results are dominated by yuri tags. This must reflect how much more popular yuri content is to yaoi. I was a little surprised it was so unbalanced, but then the main market for VNs in Japan are heterosexual Japanese males, who tend to like both hetero and lesbian content.

As someone transgender, it was a little disappointing that “trap” protagonists are treated primarily as fetish fuel (hence the all-girls school setting) or as humorous (the comedy tag). While “trap” isn’t synonymous with transgender, it’s still nice to see how common it is given that visibility is the first step to acceptance.

It’s interesting that nameable protagonists are more associated with content catered towards a female audience, while faceless and voiceless protagonists are more linked with male protagonists (and their male audience). It would seem to suggest that women self-insert more through the text, while men insert through visuals. This would fit with academic research on erotica, with men tending towards visual stimuli, and women more towards written erotica.

For the protagonist selection tag, the increase in the increase of Shounen Ai and Shoujo Ai content is perhaps due to those VNs offering the same romanceable cast for either selection, therefore resulting in more same-sex options.

Translation for the non-weeaboos: “Kyonyuu” is a woman with a large chest, and “Netori” is where the protag seduces someone already in a relationship. Ahoge refers to a tuft of hair that won’t stay down.

The gender split in partial and full voice acting is quite pronounced, perhaps because female protag VNs are on average shorter, so less expensive to voice. It’s kind of ironic that fighting protags are so high up on the list, given their vocabulary consists primarily of grunts and screams.

As someone who wears glasses, I object to us being so closely tied to being fat and ugly. #NotAllGlasses

It’s curious that the ugly and chubby traits seem to be so closely tied with nukige (porn) content, specifically with acts that can be considered humiliating for others. Netori, urination, and public sex are all popular activities for such protags.

I find it kind of adorable that ahoge bearers are fated to be together, with heroines who have ahoges the most closely linked trait to protagonists with ahoges. Do the children of such couples then have double ahoges? However I object to them being linked to school life comedies, I can assure you from personal experience that dealing with an ahoge is no laughing matter, they’re a bitch to deal with!

Given the age of the characters, I suppose it shouldn’t be a surprise that virgin sex is so closely tied to student protagonists.

It seems almost poetic that university level protagonists are tied with multiple endings, what with university opening the door to so many options in life.

It’s cute that transfer students are linked to senpai heroines, I guess they’re the ones most in need of someone to take them under their wing. I’m not sure what the connection with super deformed CGs could be though.

Of all the unrealistic situations depicted in VNs, dimensional hopping, time travel, aliens, nothing beats how adult protagonists are portrayed. Sex, sex, and more sex? Where’s the “pays bill” or “worries about a mortgage” tags?

It seems the most noble of professions, teaching and healing, are both exploited for their fetish potential in VNs, with sexual content being so closely tied to them.

It seems appropriate that there’s only a single heroine for otaku protagonists, they know how to stay true to their one and only waifu.

Translation note: “Donkan” is someone oblivious to other’s romantic interest in them. “Hetare” is someone who has no will of their own, and constantly gets pushed around.

It’s kind of disappointing that proactive protags would waste their talents on mere romance and virgin heroines, surely they can put their energy to better use? There are worlds to save!

Nothing ever seems to go right for those suffering from mental illness. Madness, death, and suicide seem to be all that await them. It doesn’t even have any insane kinky sex to make up for it.

It’s somewhat ironic that strong female protags tend to be found more in historical settings, a time period where they’d be most oppressed by gender norms. But perhaps it’s more appealing to break gender roles in an era when they were more rigid. 

It’s a shame that being in a relationship is used more as a fetish trait than a plot device. There are so many stories and relatable motivations that can be built on an existing relationship.

Perverted protagonists mostly engage in blowjobs and virgin sex? I’m disappointed. It’s like VN devs haven’t ever visited the internet.

I hope you enjoyed this little analysis. I had a lot of fun picking images for each category and wanted a few jokes, so I hope you’ll forgive a few indulgences as I picked a few anime characters here and there.
